Projects in Cambodia
The projects from 2005 enabled us to install 32 fountains mainly in the North-west of Cambodia. 7 new sites are planned to be equiped before end of 2010. Our local platform “Teuk Saat 1001” has taken charge of the installations.

Banteay Chmar
Population : 5000 inhabitants
Management : private operator
Raw water resource : moats of the old khmer temple
Local NGO : Enfants du Mékong
Initially installed in the “School of silk” created by “EDM,” the fountain has since been moved
near the moats of the temple.
The first to be
installed in Cambodia, the Bantey Chmar fountain produces on the average 4000 liters per day during the
dry season. It is the standard for the other installed sites. Its operator, Yeung Bun Chean, is very proud
to earn money while serving the community.
Thippaday
Population : 3000 inhabitants
Management : private operator
Raw water resource : In this village, the discovery of natural arsenic pollution in the underground
water source demonstrated the necessity to use surface water and to install flocking/decanting of the water
to be purified.
In spite of several trials, it has not been possible to find a local operator sufficiently dynamic to
ensure a sufficient number of users. The station was closed and the equipment reclaimed for another use.
Home for children “Enfants du Mekong” in Sisophon
Contrary to other sites, the fountain is installed in “self-service” at the Children’s Residence of the
NGO “Enfants du Mekong”.
Martin Maindiaux, the director, states:
“The quality of the drinking water is perfect: no more typhoid fever of youngsters
in residences, much less stomach-aches and diarrhoea…this brings us enormous benefits to health and food
cleanliness.”
Rohat Teuk
District : Mongkol Borey
Population : 2900 families

Local NGO : CARE which helped the county create a health care center.
The handling of the site is assured by a couple from the village and the installation of the
fountain under an extension of their house piques the curiosity of the neighbors.
The chief of the district is very interested in the project and hopes that in the future, there will
be a fountain in each county… “Water quality is an important health issue, and this
project answers a real need in Cambodia,” he says. “There are 3 things that
we think of on waking: fetch water, fetch food, and then go to work.”
